Learning Analytics Summit Aims to Build Network of Communities Focused on Student Success

The “Framing the Future of Learning Analytics and Student Success” summit was hosted by IU Bloomington’s Center for Learning Analytics and Student Success. It featured “lightning round” presentations, small-group discussions, poster sessions and a keynote address by Dennis Groth, the IU Bloomington vice provost for undergraduate education.

George Rehrey, director of the center and organizer of the summit, said IU Bloomington has built a solid network of faculty who use data analytics, predictive modeling and other quantitative research methods to improve the effectiveness of college-level curriculum and teaching.

Workforce Data Analytics Is a Struggle, Says Ithaca College

Most organizations are not using workforce data analytics to anywhere near its fullest capabilities. And this includes Ithaca College, which hired a new HR manager to change its direction.

The college plans to upgrade its HR platform to Oracle HCM Cloud and improve its workforce data analytics. It’s now running 17-year-old Oracle on-premises systems managed by the IT department. Age wasn’t the only problem facing these HR systems. Maintenance wasn’t kept up, and integrations were lacking.

Student Information System – Polk State College

Student Plays Role in College’s Transition to Information System

Polk State College is transitioning to a new student information system, which serves as the institution’s backbone technology for academic and business functions, and a student is playing an important role in the process.

Sneh Patel, an Associate in Arts student, will work as an intern on the transition from Genesis/Passport to Jenzabar, which is sponsoring the prestigious internship.

“Sneh is a stellar student and has significant skills that will help us along the way of our transition,” said Naomi Boyer, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Innovation, and Chief Information Officer. “I am pleased that Jenzabar has further underscored our partnership by investing in talent to help our efforts.”

St. Francis College Announces New Akademos Online Bookstore

St. Francis College has selected Akademos as its online bookstore provider to help students obtain significant savings on course materials and make purchasing easier through personalized listings linked to their course management accounts. Faculty and staff will benefit from actionable data and analytics that connect learning material selections to academic outcomes. All course materials will be available via the new platform in support of Fall Term 2018, with a pilot during the final summer session.

The Akademos platform will offer seamless integration between the College’s Ellucian Colleague Student Information System (SIS), Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), and the Akademos online bookstore. The integration will allow students to view a personalized listing of all of their registered courses and their corresponding required and optional materials and to order materials for an entire term in 5-minutes or less.
