Adaptive Learning and Partnerships Drive Academic Transformation

With higher education enrollment rates dropping each year, universities will likely continue to rethink what learning at the college level looks like. No matter what solution they arrive at or strategy they come up with, technology is going to play a major role.

“What we’re seeing this year is that student success is absolutely still important, but it’s not the central organizing North Star for technology or innovations for institutions,” Susan Grajek, vice president for communities and research at EDUCAUSE, tells EdTech. “Institutions are using technologies to remake higher education.”

Learning Analytics – Colorado State University

CSU Considers Ethics of Learning Analytics to Predict Student Success

While an increasing amount of universities collect student data, Colorado State University is unique in that recently it began a campus conversation about how to effectively and ethically implement the use of educational data science, known as learning analytics.

There are two major learning analytics projects being pursued by the University, said Bayler Shubert, the Associated Students of Colorado State University’s Director of Academics, who has worked with campus partners as the student representative on the topic. The first is a partnership with Education Advisory Board, the program currently used by advisors that collects data on students’ demographics and high school performance. The second is the learning analytics program LoudCloud, which would predict student success for use by faculty.

Learning Management System – Texas State University

TRACS to be Replaced With Another System After Trial Run

The Texas State Learning Management System Advisory Committee has been created to assess if TRACS needs to be replaced and if so, which system would replace it.

Comparing potential TRACS replacements will be done throughout 2018 with Texas State community input and feature presentations from potential LMS providers. In 2019, preliminary pilots of one of these potential systems will be implemented and the board of regents will approve or deny that new system. By 2022, the new system will be implemented across Texas State.

Assessing what the Texas State community would like to see changed in a LMS began April 2017. Evaluating TRACS and other systems will continue through this year before any change is implemented.
