UNC Chapel Hill Cancels Big Deal With Elsevier
After failing to reach a deal after more than a year of negotiations, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill has decided not to renew its journal subscription with Elsevier. The main issue seems to be the obligatory ‘cable packages’ of journals.
This comes after other large university systems chose to also end their ‘big deals’ with Elsevier. However, Elsevier is in the midst of piloting new subscription agreement models of open-access publications with other European and US universities.
