Pearson Acquires Interactive Learning Technology from Smart Sparrow
Pearson announced the acquisition of Smart Sparrow, an ed tech company based in Sydney, Australia. This acquisition shall enhance Pearson’s capabilities in adaptive learning while helping to accelerate the roll-out of its Global Learning Platform, an engine developed for personalized learning experiences for students.
“The Smart Sparrow technology will help build more personalized and effective learning experiences that engage students whenever and wherever they need it. We believe this has the potential to drive better learning outcomes that in turn will lead to improved employability prospects,” says Tim Bozik, President of Global Product & North America Courseware, Pearson.

Veritas Capital to Acquire Campus Management and Edcentric from Leeds Equity Partners
An affiliate of Veritas has just signed a definitive agreement to acquire Campus Management and Edcentric Holdings LLC from Leeds Equity Partners, LLC; Leeds continuing on as an investor in both companies.
Campus Management offers ERP solutions to hundreds of highered institutions while Edcentric provides SaaS platform data-driven solutions. Leeds Equity “[…] is committed to supporting Edcentric and Campus Management as they continue to invest in solutions that help to transform institutions across academic delivery, constituent engagement and overall operations,” said Jacques Galante, Partner at Leeds Equity, while “[persuing] new growth opportunities in partnership with Veritas Capital.”
Georgia State U. Says Digital Textbooks Will Save Students $300K
A University System of Georgia initiative, Affordable Learning Georgia, will save students large amounts of money as they embrace open educational resources, including open textbooks. Georgia State University just announced the availability of new digital learning materials for criminal justice and criminology students which they were able to deliver through the Textbook Transformation Grant.
“Expensive textbooks harm learning,” said Scott Jacques, who leads Andrew Young School’s Digital Landscape Initiative, in a press release. “This transformation to no-cost materials will make our students more successful.”

Kingsport Schools Adopting New Student Information System
After studying many options, Kingsport’s Board of Education approved the purchase of Aspen for the schools’ new integrated Student Information System.
The Aspen system boasted many advantages over its competitors, especially regarding its seamless interface and compatibility with the state’s SIS. The transition from Powerschool should start over the summer in time for the 2021-22 school year schedules.
