Coursera’s IPO Filing Shows Growing Revenue and Loss During a Pandemic
Coursera reported a 59 percent increase in revenue from the previous year which comes from its more than 77 million registered learners, along with more than 2,000 businesses, as well as its Coursera for Campus, a library of online courses launched in 2019.
Coursera’s offering in recent years of fully online bachelor’s and master’s degrees puts the company on a path to compete with other “online program management” (OPM) providers. But its operating costs associated with these new services resulted in a 43 percent increase in net loss.
Coursera is therefore looking to raise up to $100 million by its IPO filing, listing on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “COUR.”
‘Cybersecurity Incident’ Forces Huron Boards to Take Student Info Systems Offline
Two school boards in Huron and Perth counties had to shut down their online student information systems due to a “cybersecurity incident.” These systems, hosted by Edsembli are used for student attendance and report cards.
“At this time, we are not aware of any compromise of personal information and have been told by the company that it is investigating with the help of an external cybersecurity specialist,” says the Avon Maitland board.
While the systems remain offline, the school continues using paper processes for attendance. It expects the systems to be back online early next week.
