Guild Education Makes First, $80 Million Acquisition To Build Out Job Marketplace Amid Covid-19 Layoffs
Guild Education just announced a partial acquisition of edtech venture consultancy Entangled Group. Guild, which helps companies offer education benefits to its employees, has aligned itself with Entangled Group in order to create a platform that would enable laid-off workers to access jobs and/or additional education necessary. Next Chapter, the new platform, connects laid-off and furloughed workers with education opportunities, career services, and a job marketplace.
University of Florida to Acquire NVIDIA DGX A100 System
The University of Florida (UF) will be the first in the country to acquire the new NVIDIA DGX A100 system, an advanced artificial intelligence that will boost the university’s powerful supercomputer and that will advance UF’s expansive plan in research, teaching, and economic development.
The initiative not only includes a commitment to hiring 100 faculty members specifically focused on AI, in addition to the 500 new faculty hired across departments, but it also involves embarking on a unique plan to disseminate AI across disciplines, thus creating an AI-enabled workforce with the potential to solve many formidable challenges.

Blackboard is Out, Canvas Takes Over as Campus Learning Management System
San Diego State will be transitioning to its new Learning Management System Canvas for the summer 2021 term with options for faculty to transition earlier during the summer or fall 2020 semesters.
Faculty who were piloting the project are pleased with the results. “Canvas is great for submitting multimedia projects and also integrates well with Google docs and Zoom. […] Many students like the fact that they can receive announcements through text messages in addition to email,” says Associate Professor Rebecca Coates Nee.
