Learning Management System – University of Notre Dame
Transition from Sakai to Canvas
After conducting a landscape scan of the LMS marketplace, the University of Notre Dame found that the Sakai platform had diminished significantly in the past five years and new easy-to-use platforms with powerful features were flourishing at peer institutions and throughout higher education.
It was recommended that the university moves on to Canvas mainly for its ease of use, its academic and pedagogical factors, its functional capability and technical matters as well as it expandability. After a series of listening sessions so that all constituents had a voice as well as a pilot of the LMS set-up in the Spring 2021, Canvas was chosen as the school’s next learning management system.

Italy’s University of Ferrara, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia Transition to the EBSCO FOLIO Electronic Resources Management
The University of Ferrara (Unife) and The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) were the first two Italian universities to choose EBSCO FOLIO’s Electronic Resource Management (ERM). EBSCO FOLIO ERM allows libraries to manage the entire cycle of electronic resources. It integrates with the EBSCO Knowledge Base which ensures users have immediate and seamless access to the library’s electronic resources.
“The constant migration from diverse and abundant print materials to online has only made it more difficult to manage resources with our current tools. We found FOLIO was the perfect solution to our needs, specifically functions including direct activation/deactivation of holdings, link usage statistics, linking individual resources to platforms, management tools and access credentials,” said UNIMORE’s Director of University Library System Maria Raffaella Ingrosso.
